How can I keep ticks out of my yard?

Having had my share of tick horror stories and dealing with Lyme disease, what are the best products for keeping ticks out of your yard?

The best product that we have found to keep ticks out of our yard is tick tubes. Not only are they easy to use, but are safe for kids, pets, and the environment. They are tubes filled with cotton that are treated with permethrin insecticide that mice love to use for their nests. Mice are one of the first animals that ticks feed on, so when they feed on the mice they die. In the Midwest, we find it most effective to set them out around the house and yard during the spring and the fall. We put them close to the house or under trees and bushes that way they stay drier.

You can find them at the following places:

You can even make your own by using cotton balls, toilet paper tubes and permethrin. You will need gloves and goggles too. I personally find it much easier to buy them already done.
